As always, writing these posts get me thinking. Sometimes that is a good thing.
The proto-Canaanite Hebrew is based on modified Egyptian glyphs according to
modern archeologists. Linguists have made many direct correlations to symbols
found in the mines of the Pharaohs.
Aleph or what becomes A in our language...Aleph represents the oneness of God.
The letter can be seen as being composed of an upper yud, a lower yud, and a vav
leaning on a diagonal. The upper yud represents the hidden and ineffable aspects
of God while the lower yud represents God's revelation and presence in the world.
Nun is what eventually becomes N in our language...The Hebrew word for faithful one,
ne'eman, is signified by the letter NUN. In Aramaic NUN means 'fish', symbolic of fertility
because they multiply rapidly. Adam was a faithful servant of God, whose purpose was
to ensure that all life was fruitful and multiplied.
Kaf or Kah is what eventually becomes K in our language...Kaf, the 11th letter of the Hebrew
Alphabet, means literally the cupped palm of the hand. It is like a cupped, outstretched
palm, ready to receive. The shape of all containers – a bowl, a cup, a jar, is based on that
basic curved shape, and Kaf represents the idea of a container. It represents form. The
earth is the cup that contains all living things.
Heh, or Hey is what eventually becomes H in our language...HEY represents the number
five. It appears twice in the sacred Name of God, deeming it a symbol of Divinity. The letter
HEY is comprised of the letters dalet and yud. The vertical and horizontal lines of the dalet
represent the physical world, while the yud signifies the world to come. The afterlife.
OK kids, what's that spell? If this was written in Hebrew the letters would be right to left, but
this is how we read so I made it left to right.
