rookie here: pontil or owens ring?

Hello Folks! I found this bottle in an old farm dump. I am very curious about the bottom, What type of mark it this? Can you tell any age by this? I will put on another pic of the whole bottle. What was it used for? I'ts purplish and is 7 inchs high. Maybe it's a type of jar for condiments.I have no idea.

Hey Josh, It's a juice bottle and is purple because it has been exposed to sun light for an extended period of time. Bottle diggers call it sun colored amythist or SCA. This is caused by the manganese dioxide the was used to make the glass clear.

The circle on the bottom is certianly an Owen's sucksion scar. The scar and purpling would date your bottle between 1905 and about 1915 although a few bottles with these attributes were produced up until 1930 or so.

Hi Warren. Thank-you for the input. I did read somewhere that the sun will colour your glass purplish or pinkinsh. I wasn't to sure with this one, and being a beginner with all of this it sure is nice to have you guys here to tell me about my finds.
