Went out on a bottle hunt yesterday (Sept. 2nd). Before I could put my shovel in the mud I saw the top of a jug sticking out of the mud. It is a mineral water jug and has the stamp of the German Imperial eagle. Around the edges it reads: 'Ober-Selters Nassau'. Under the jug's handle is scrawled the letter 'M' and 'No. 68'. This is the same as the jug I found in the area last month.
No. 68 was a worker who was paid by the number and quality of pieces they could produce. He or she had to be sure to mark their number on each jug so they could be paid correctly.
This is a tooled lip medical bottle with a nice embossed image of a mortar and pestle. It was made for George C. Frye who was a wholesale and retail druggist in the 1890's.
The Ideal Mineral Water Manufacturing Company of New York. This example is from 234 East 121st Street. I have found an example of this bottle before but not from this address, I have a feeling this is an older variant:
