A friend found this while searching for arrowheads down in Texas. The site he was hunting on also had an old homestead dating back to the 1840's. I believe it's open pontiled, but I haven't seen pics of the base yet. One side says PHILAD and the other says Dr. D. Jaynes Hair Tonic. Any info would be appreciated. Chris Capley

Here's the other side. Looks like it's got a nice rolled lip to! C.C.

That version of the Jaynes Hair Tonic comes in both pontil and smooth bottom so you would have to check the bottom. If it was pontil marked I would estimate value at about $70 , smooth bottom would go for about $25. The pontil version would prob date from the 1850s-1860s. The smooth bottom from 1860s-1870s.

Just an "educated guess", Chris, but that example should have an OP. The slightly rebated base is an indicator of the push effect of the punty rod on the hot glass in the mold. The actual value is somewhat less than a "mint" specimen would bring, but still in the $50. range. Clean it and it might bring a bit more.
