Thanks for letting me join the forum. I sure hope someone has seen one of these before and can help me with it.

The only history I have is that it was found in Southern Indiana.

It's mould blown. Seam goes just to the shoulders, where the neck was applied. It's 19" tall and 13" across. It has the number 25 embossed in it. Could the number stand for the quantity it holds?

TIA!!! Marlya

Yes, Brian, I have done so already on another forum. Here is the substance of that response:

Your bottle is a demijohn with a 25 liter capacity. In all
likelihood, it was blown in Germany in the mid-1800s.

There is a series of these bottles with embossed capacity -- 25,
19.87, 17, 15, 10, 5, 2 are a few I have had or admired. You can see
some on my web-site at:

Well guys...Thank you!!!! So, what do I do with it? I can't keep it because it's SO Big. I do sell online, but cannot imagine having to ship this, it's not impossible, but I would hate for it to get broke. I can put it in my booth where it would be safer thatn at home. May I ask what it might be worth?

Marlya . . .

You sounded so enthusiastic about it just hours ago on Yahoo!

Stick it in a corner with some Pampas grass in it, Marlya. Make a lamp out of it. It makes a great decorator accent piece.

It will ship. I mailed one just like it from Florida to New York just a few months ago.

Check eBay "completed" auctions for current value.

Oh but I AM excited about it and if I lived in anything else but a 4 room house, it'd stay here. I also have a clutzy husband and an 11 yr. old...need I say more?

I just rented storage space for all of my other glass because I have run out of room, and I am not allowed to add anything to the main house, so, I digress, I have to let it go. But the prices on eBay for these big guys is some what enough to make me list it there.

Thanks so much for your help. I have saved your site for furture reference, as I do have a couple of small bottles that may also be this type.

Marlya...forever grateful for this forum and will try to visit more often.[;)]
