Thought my dad was digging up one of his ‘junk’ signals again, turned out to be big iron highway sign folded in half! He unfolded it and put it through electrolysis, and I primed and painted it back to its original colors. Based on provenance & the early stamped design (later signs were embossed/raised), it is likely from the late 1910s-early 20s- just before Kansas had official ‘state highways’ (1926)! Also of interesting note, the square nail holes in the sign.

. What a find! wonder, how old is your house? if that's where he dug. My house is 1947 one of the first in the area! Have dug mercury dimes in front yard while digging a new entrance.

Thanks! It was an abandoned townsite we were looking at. Can’t remember if I found any whole old bottles there or not but it was a late 1800s-mid 1900s lot
