I figured it is time to get the next generation involved in digging. We had tried a farm dump on Memorial Day without much luck. I decided to have Benjamin help me dig a privy at a friend's house. It was a newer site than I would prefer but hoped we would turn up some druggist bottles from my home town, Lebanon Illinois.

There was a one day break in the rain so we went to work.

The dig went well until we hit the water table in the last foot. Then it was a mucky mess. However, my son had a great time and learned how to probe, dig, sift and best if all find bottles. It was a newer hole 1910-1930. Unfortunately there were no local druggists for me.

We figured there was a woman who lived alone by the findings. There were over 30 milk glass jars, mainly Ponds. And 15 Hinds Honey and Almond bottles. In addition we found a metal beaded purse. There were about 10 broken fruit jars. Two looked out of the ordinary (I will post later).

We also found a few beer bottles and 2 whiskeys. I wondered why my son was so excited with the first clear whiskey flask I pulled out. Apparently, when I told him about the different types of bottles that exist in general I was not clear enough about historical flasks being much, much older. He just hear me say "flask" so got excited.
