My collection of bottles and more. I'm only 14 and I dig dumps, foundations and metal detect on the state land across the road and even in my yard. Most of these were bought even some I got free from my grandpa's friend who also collects older bottles and cans and more. My name is Jesse James Postol.

Collector of old glass! Bottles, insulators, lightning rod ball, perfumes and if it is a glass oddity I probably have kept it. I am excited to delve into new information.

Textkev, I posted something hoping to hear from SEANB. I can't find his name anywhere any longer. I also tried to find CHATT??. No luck either. I tried to find EPACKAGE. Again no luck. Have they all dropped out??

Hi Underminer,

I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a hunt together at some point? It looks like we are searching in the same kind of places (muddy) but you're on the north shore and I'm on the south shore.

The best locations I know require kayak (and therefore warmer weather), so i'm not sure if that would be restrictive if you're interested.

u make valid points all around. the toxicity of the water is concerning, and likely it has been plundered to a large extent. i would imagine since at least the 70s by bottle hunters.... i'm in north jersey and i wish we had good rivers i could scout the banks after storms. but between the passic, the hackensack, and the hudson they all are polluted to varying degrees of severity

I'm not super averse to toxicity for short durations of time. Unless there's a specifically harmful chemical, the most important thing is to limit exposure. Of course, they used to dump toxic chemicals in the exact same manner that they dumped the bottles (they took it in a scow and "off yez go inta da drink!").

You've gotta take into account that if they dump regularly at the same spot, the toxic chemicals sank into the sediment at the bottom, so the bottles may themselves be contaminated. As a fairly young person who grew up playing on superfund sites, I personally am not that concerned about going to a site. Just wash everything like it came from Chernobyl! Now shellfishing... That's another story!
