Hi all, new member here and excited to join the community! I got into bottle hunting around a year ago down here in Charleston, South Carolina. I have been enjoying the new hobby and have learned a lot with each and every find!

I wanted to share a recent find from last week - this iron pontil WILLIAM UNDERWOOD & CO. BOSTON - 32 OZ pickle bottle! My oldest bottle find to date!

I was able to find a good bit of information online about the company, but I wanted to see if anyone could give me any additional information on the bottle. I believe it is Civil War era from the 1860s in age. Is that accurate? Also, is it a rare bottle? Any ideas on what it is worth? Any other details or info to share? Thanks in advance!

The good thing is where you live, great place to dig for sure. Good luck and maybe start diving around too

Iron pontil pretty much history by 1870, going back at least as far as 1850s. So you've got the right time frame. Don't know if that's a rare mold or not. Great bottle either way. Lots of character.

Unfortunately, I don't have much info on this bottle. It could've held any variation of fruits or vegetables and I agree on the age, 1860s.

This doesn't look Iron Pontiled to me & with the content size/Ounces listed puts it around 1912 & after.

Check out these examples below, both have embossed content sizes and are 1860s-80s listed at the Heckler auction. The third is an example of the same bottle, except in a 64 oz size.

The 3rd bottle is Iron Pontiled, I can see that without seeing bottom. my first comment I believe was true, not iron pontiled, after looking at top lip top lip appears 1860's. I'll rephrase my 2nd comment, I said after 1912 or13 because at that time the Government passed the Gould Act which stated all Items must indicate there size or size of contents. Before this law was passed in 1912 or 13 abouts very few items had the contents size listed, because before 1912 it was optional. not a option to many people used so scarce to find a 1800's item with ounces or contents size listed. Pic of Iron Pontil below.
