Bottles were the result of glass blowing, an art once lost to antiquity.
When lighting hit sandy beaches, the high temperature resulting from
interacting with sand (quartz) caused the crystals to align causing the
creation of glass. Thats how its done today. High temps interact with
sand (silica) and it is blown into molds. Iron was discovered in a
similar manner. Meteorites hurtled to earth, forming the first iron metals.
Prior to this, naturally occurring gems (emeralds, rubies, citrines ) were
cut to resemble the 6 sided structure of quartz tips. It was believed that
once cut to this shape, one could convene with the spirit world. King
Solomon had a ruby faceted ring that he could use to summon a Djinn.
His seal was equally famous. It had six facets. Djinn were "good" spirits.
Five sided facets were said to summon the shedim. Shedim were "bad"
spirits. Witchcraft and Satanists use them. I won't picture it here because
I am superstitious.
I stumbled upon an unusual crystal in my bottle hunting days. A box of shiny rocks
and crystals came home with me. Amongst them was a double terminated crystal
called a Herkimer diamond. Natives called them dream stones. Spiritualists use
them as magic wands. Whatever you call them, they are very pretty and need no
modifications to enjoy the sunlight passing through them from a window. I always
keep some next to my bottles, to remind me of their origin.
