A friend and fellow bottle collector of mine sent me a set of pics about
Hit yesterday. I was jealous but impressed. It seems that Hit was not
a cola beverage although it seemed to be competing with Kik and Pepsi
head on. It would, if you can get meaning out of its slogan, appear to
be a caffeinated orange beverage akin to Mountain Dew. It does make
sense. Why else would an orange soda manufacturer make a competing
orange beverage? Perhaps bootlegging in the 1930s was the answer.
The invention of Mountain Dew was to be a novel take on drinks
like Orange Cola, a highly caffeinated beverage from the early days of
Coke. It was destined to become a great mixer, cutting the harshness of
homemade whisky aka moonshine. ... or high proof grain alcohol ?
The Seagrams of Montreal empire was known to be bootlegging 100
proof grain alcohol south of the border during Prohibition.
Shaken, not stirred!
