John Lucas & Co. was a huge paint company based out of Philadelphia and founded in 1852. It appears they also sold vanishes and oils and despite your bottle having classic paneled medicine shape, it likely contained something to that nature. Your bottle looks to be 1890's-1910's to me. They were acquired by Sherwin-Williams in 1930 and the brand name was discontinued in 1978.
