How does a prairie boy begin to collect bottles? UFOs! Yes...UFOs! Before you
click on to another post, rest assured that I was not abducted or abused by
aliens. Facts are stranger than fiction I guess.

My brothers and I were what you would call Base Brats. I moved to CFB Obodo in
the spring of 1964. It was the only world I knew. Some world; wheat fields and
little villages that were forbidden to a 3 year old. My first cola recollection was of
my Dad popping out the cork on a Coke cap and pushing it back on between my
shirt and the lid. Not even a sip....until my twin brother and I were told to wait
in a diner while Dad checked out Bud's Bear Service Station across the street in
town. I remembered the cap and ordered a Coke. My twin was the rebellious type
and ordered a Mountain Dew. Yahoo! Moonshine? The bottles fizzed and the bubbles
tickled my nose. Three years and many sodas later our world would change.

I was sitting on the front porch with my twin and my neighbour. She was a pretty
little blonde girl and my best friend for many years. They both exclaimed loudly that
something was landing in the wheat field to the north of us. I could barely see it as I
badly needed glasses, but could make out a bright glowing orb darting up and down. It
changed colours rapidly. They told me it was a UFO. The truth is out there lol.

The date was August 28, 1967. The following spring I helped my brother find the
landing site. It was an old bone yard and mound on Dakota land. We found arrow heads,
pottery shards and fossils. I was hooked. I loved buried treasure! When CFB Obodo
closed and we moved back to Ottawa, no digging was the law. Instead, I found my first
bottle in an excavation site close to home. Kik! I was now officially a bottle collector.

A 1/2 hour hike from my home in the prairies. Famous for its UFO landing on August 28, 1967.

It's tough to limit the collection but these are the only bottles I haven't
had before, except a very rough example of the 1950's bottle that I had
found over 50 years ago. I guess it was time for an upgrade lol!
