I have been cleaning up and getting rid of 35 years of accumulated stuff on Ebay. I ran across five old bottles and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about them. I have been looking around the web and the closest thing I can come up with is they are blob top “Apollinaris” Style 1870’s 1880’s mineral water or early beer bottles. Can anyone tell me if this is close to what they are? There are no markings I can find. Looks like I am limited to one image.[attachment=IMG_3249.jpg]

How tall are they? I've found dozens of the olive green examples, all turn-mold and about a foot tall. Yours appear to have mold lines. Seems like I may have found an amber one years ago, 8 or 9 inches tall.

They are 12” tall and a little over 3” at the bottom. They are seamed up to the bottom of the blob. I read somewhere that most examples of this type of bottle are olive green.

I've found 24 of them in green and amber in a wooden crate that belonged to one of our local bottlers circa 1900. They were labeled as cider.

I am glad found this forum I was originally going to list the bottles on Ebay as old wine bottles. I decided to look into bottles and bottle collecting first and have found the history of bottle making very interesting. I’ve also found photographing detail on glass like stress bubbles and tool markings can be challenging. I would still like to sell them but I am not sure they would be worth listing. I am guessing shipping would be more than the bottles would bring.

I believe you are correct on all accounts. They are 1880 - 1910 Beer, Mineral Water, Soda, type bottles, pretty common but nice for a beginning collector. If they were embossed or even labeled they would be worth considerably more than their $3 - $5 each value (to most BOTTLE collectors). It's really too bad they aren't worth more, they look really clean and in nice condition.

Hello Payara and welcome, You may want to look in the home decor section on e-bay, They have a lot of ideas for bottles like yours. If nothing else, list them on there to see if you can get a little more money from someone who wants to use them for a home decor project. Just a thought!!

I like the label “CALIFORNIA ORANGE CIDER” bottled by an Indiana company. John Forthoffer seems to have been a large bottling company of the time. I am going to look into the home decor uses for the bottles are in very good condition should be saved and used for something.
