Owens bought Grahams to get the Patents they needed/wanted Grahams had. The improved neck may be one of them. LEON.

P.S. Earliest Hobbleskirt Ad I could find was from March 4th of 1917.

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear, I can see everything above as well. I was wondering about the actual documents they are referring to, the letter and the drawing(s). The link they provide to access it [http://opac.indianahistory.org/] does not work for me (I am using laptop, not phone) and I tried searching a few more ways but was unsuccessful.

One more question, looking at the pics Bob posted of the eBay bottle I went back and took more of my bottle neck/top. This is what I was trying to say the other day, looking at the seams (particularly on neck) they seem to be misaligned in a similar way as one he purchased. I thought they looked a little off and was wondering about the significance of that.

Ivy, and all

Thanks for the additional photos. Even though I have not received my bottle yet, I have been doing some research and MIGHT have found the maker and approximately when it was made. This might also apply to your bottle if it does have an offset seam where it transitions from the neck to the finish (Lip). Although I can't say for certain because your photo is a little blurry. However, I will take your word for it in the meantime.

According to various sources, including the information via the following link for the Laurens Glass Works (which I am also attaching a snippet from) Laurens apparently made some early hobble-skirts that are said ...

1. To be sky blue in color.
2. Did not include maker's marks until after 1919*
3. Were the only hand-blown hobble-skirts.
4. With an applied finish (Lip)*

*Information from Bill Porter's Coca Cola "Checklist" booklet page 3 where it says ...

"Laurens Glass Works, Laurens S.C."
"Until 1919: no mark (applied lip bottles)."
"1919-1933: 'LGW' followed by date on the heel."
"1934-1951: 'L' and date on the skirt."

So, if that information is accurate, then my bottle MIGHT be a hand-blown unmarked hobble-skirt with an applied lip that was made by the Laurens Glass Works sometime between circa 1916 and circa 1919. Although I am leaning towards 1917 or 1918.

Putting my bottle aside for the moment, the thing to do now is to try and be absolutely certain if your bottle does indeed have the offset seam. Once this is determined we can proceed from there and discuss things further. By the way, I'm not suggesting that your bottle was made by Laurens because we know it's a Graham bottle. At this point I'm primarily interested in the seams.

Thanks

Bob

While we are waiting to hear from Ivy, check out this 2019 Morphy auction catalog. It's the catalog that includes the hobble-skirt that sold for $108,000. It's a huge catalog, so scroll to pages 304 and 305 where you will find the photos and information about the bottle. There is some additional information on page 306. If I understand it correctly, that particular bottle was the ONLY test bottle. Apparently, all of the other test bottles were destroyed. As near as I can determine, the test bottles were made by the Root Glass Co. This is somewhat confirmed by the 1916 article I posted earlier. However, none of this seems to explain the other 1916 articles I posted that clearly illustrate the bottle. Were those also test bottles? Personally, I don't think they were. My guess is that the testing took place in the summer of 1916 and ended sometime in September or October of 1916, and the later bottles were some of the first that were released in late 1916 and early 1917. After that, they went national. However, we may never know for sure about the test and the early-early bottles until something more definitive is found.

Here's the link to the catalog - see pages 304 thru 306 - zoom by using the +
