That's very intriguing Doug!....Any Idea on why it's where it is?...Could it have been the cistern to catch rainwater, etc? I'm looking forward to more info and finds. Joe

Great news, Doug! Glad you found something within an easy commute of the house, har har. Interesting that you'd find a Long Beach milk up in the Bay Area... and Walnut Grove is a bit of a hike from you as well, no? In any case, hope you find more down there!

Walnut Grove is a Delta town not far from me, up the river tords Sac. but Walnut Grove Dariy is actually located in the small town of Knightsen, located about 20 miles east of Antioch. From what I've seen, bottle wise, from there, it appears they were in buisness for a while, but if you you know you calif dairy towns the area its in is sort of on the out skirts of Dariy territory, that milk is a cool find, common but from an obscure town

Nice milks! I poked around a cistern that was under a cottage next to my grandparent's 1809 house. Found 3 unembossed bottles. There's prob. more in there though!

Joe the crow: Hey Joe,,,,,,that is what I'm thinking as a lot of places around here used cisterns to collect rain water etc......I think the location of the well is actually based on an older house that used to sit on this property, as I checked out an old map from 1889 and it showed a different size house here before the one I live in was built which was 1907 just after the big earthquake of 1906.

Hey Nick: Right on with the information on the Walnut Grove Creamery.......even though the dairy was listed as an Oakland Dairy it was based on the Burroughs Brothers farm in Knightsen. I also found another milk tonight in the well and it's from the Central Shuey dairy which is near Brentwood....It's funny how the dairies were listed as being Oakland dairies yet there quite a little ways from Oakland, all in the similar area of Oakley, Brentwood, and Knightsen.

Night 2 of Unexpected discovery under my house

Hey All,
I couldn't resist going back into the well tonight to see what more I could find.

Looks like all these folk ever drank were whiskey and Milk.............found five more whiskey flasks and one very nice Milk.
This is going to be a dragged out process of getting to the bottom of this well as there is more dirt and lots of bailing water to do by myself........I am really feeling how I am not a spring chicken anymore[]
